The Junior School at Marsden Park Anglican College is a vibrant and energetic place where students are encouraged to seek opportunities to live, love and lead as they learn.
Students engage in a range of activities that support loving Christ and others, including regular Junior School assemblies, community and cultural days and charity and service activities.
Each class in the Junior School regularly reads the bible and prays, as well as engaging in weekly Christian Living lessons. Teachers share with their students what Christian’s believe and seek to model this for their students, through key values of grace and compassion.
The Junior School offers a host of activities which support the development of students, including the Public Speaking Competition, the Student Representative Council and opportunities to attend the Grip Leadership conference and the ASC Young Leaders Day.
One example of our holistic approach to education is the highly anticipated Year Six market day program, through which students research, design, plan and operate a market stall, selling products which other students can purchase.
Our large, purpose build classrooms flow onto open shared spaces, where students can engage collaboratively and also access library. The large windows and glass walls ensure that students can move between a range of learning spaces whilst remaining in sight of their teachers.
Our teachers employ explicit instruction strategies when teaching both literacy and numeracy. In particular, Kindergarten to Year Two teachers and support staff are trained in InitiaLit – a research-based specialised spelling, grammar, writing program called InitiaLit.
Student experience in the Creative and Performing Arts and Personal Development Health and Physical Education is enriched with specialist teachers, who bring expertise and passion in their chosen field.
Older students model leadership through the College’s mentoring program, acting as ‘buddies’ to our youngest students. Buddies participate in shared reading sessions, collaborative play time and occasional eating time together. The heart of the buddy program seeks to develop strong links between older and younger students to develop a strong sense of community.
